The Sharpness Canal - Purton to the Severn Rail Bridge
This was the first trip of the year on open water for many of the group, and in deed the first time on a canal for some of them. The weather wasn't as kind this time and we experienced wind, light winds and overcast weather. The group canoed together towards the Sharpness Docks stopping off at places to learn about the fascinating history of the Severn Rail Bridge and Barge Graveyard at Purton. Well worth a revisit sometime, and to take in a drink at the nearby Berkeley Arms at high tide. Elena said "I enjoyed having lunch on the concrete barge, even if it was the most wierdest place I have ever eaten before. I had great fun sailing on Zoe's open canoe".
Congratulations to all for doing so well and special thanks to the sailors for the tow and lifts. Here's some websites that might be of interest.
