Sharpness Canal - 24th June 2009

Sharpness Canal - East of Purton

For a change we decided to drive North out of the city, and despite earlier motorway closures we had an easy drive out of the city. Eight of us set out that evening- including five paddlers on their first club river trip. We set off at a leisurely pace, enjoying watching a couple of teams on a raft they had made. There were also lots of fish swimming around our boats. Florrie discovered that if you are struggling to go in straight lines, a log on a rope tied behind the boat makes steering a lot easier. The weather was again amazingly pleasant. We had a very leisurely pleasant paddle, and were all very much refreshed by the physical exertion of paddling, and the peace and quiet of the countryside. A couple of us had had really tiring days at work, and nearly didn't come, but we were really glad we had come. The youngsters were extremely tired when they had finished but had had a great time.

(Paddlers: Lyn, Serena, Caitlyn, Florrie, Dave, Mike, Andy and Ruth)

Thanks again to Dave for towing the boats and kit and organising us again.
