This was an anti-clockwise trip of a little over 12 miles, starting in Batheaston, traveling down the river Avon into Bath until it was possible to transfer onto the Kennet and Avon canal. At this point we headed north again and back out of Bath, eventually crossing the river Avon on the Dundas aqueduct where we dropped back down to the river and headed downstream and back to the cars.

There were a number of weirs to negotiate all of which we were portaged. The carry from the river Avon up the flight of locks onto the Kennet and Avon canal was significant making this very much an all-day trip!

It was a new trip for all of us though some had previously paddled a few sections of it. I certainly came away very impressed with how scenic it was and just a little ashamed I had not explored the area previously as it is so close to home.

(Paddlers: Andrew, Dave, Keith, Julia, Mike, Steve and mate)
