As the regular pool session had to be cancelled a number of folk decided to have a run down the river Wye from Kerne Bridge, below Goodrich Castle, to Symond’s Yat paddling open canoes. The river was pretty high and brown from the recent rains which made for easy progress. Following a stop for lunch, Mike practiced ferry glides while Dave unintentionally practiced his support stokes to a tirade of advice regarding lifting knees or something! Meanwhile Keith and Vicky made it all look very easy.

At Lower Lydbrook, a capsized canoe, belonging to another group, gave us the opportunity to catch and return various possessions to their rightful owners. The star was Russell who managed to pluck a wallet from the swirling waters before it sank!

To finish off we had a play in the Yat rapids. Missing the first breakout, Dave and Mike decided (?) to run them backwards and practice at the bottom instead! The return to the top of the rapids is normally done by walking up a stream bed which runs parallel to the main rapids. On this occasion however, the water was somewhat deeper than normal!

Thanks to all for a great day out.

(Paddlers: Dave, Julia, Keith, Mike, Russell, Vicky)
